Court safety Protocols
The COVID-19 Pandemic created many challenges for the court. At the direction of Chief Judge Mark Fratarcangeli, the Court vowed to take precautions and make necessary changes to create a safe environment for both the public and employees. The court immediately began using the Zoom technology platform to conduct virtual hearings and made arrangements for individuals without access to technology to use it at the courthouse safely via I-Pad.
The court made several additional changes and advancements to better serve the public during the pandemic, including the following:
- The court added a Facebook page to easily push information to court users and the general public, relating to operations, policies and procedures. Search @40thDistrictCourt and follow the court Facebook page for updates.
- In addition to text message reminders, the court began offering email reminders for court hearings. Anyone with an upcoming court date who is interested in receiving the text messaging or email reminder option(s) is encouraged to contact the 40th District Court at (586) 445-5280.
- Clerk Virtual Counter was made available on the court website so that the public can interact with court staff via Zoom regarding cases and general questions. The virtual counter will be available Monday-Friday, from 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
- An outdoor kiosk unit was installed for contactless payments. The kiosk is located near the front doors of the courthouse, and is available 24-7.
The court is now open to the public and managing dockets in a controlled fashion to ensure safety for both the public and court employees. The court will continue to readily adapt to provide a safe and productive court environment for the citizens of St. Clair Shores.
