LOSS OF K-9 AXE

...FROM THE ST. CLAIR SHORE POLICE DEPT CHIEF:
 On November 4th, 2018 at approximately 6:22 p.m., the St. Clair Shores Police Department received a 911 call from Lakeland Manor Banquet Hall (26211 Harper Ave.) regarding a man with a gun call. The initial information received from caller was that a black male wearing a white shirt was armed with a long gun outside of the banquet hall with approximately 70 people inside the hall. Upon officer arrival, a male matching this description was observed standing outside the banquet hall. The male ignored several demands from officers and attempted to flee the scene on foot. St. Clair Shores K-9 Axe was deployed and upon confronting the male, shots were fired from a handgun by the male, striking the K-9. St. Clair Shores Police Department officers returned fire, striking the male. The male was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased. K-9 Axe was transported to a local animal hospital where he was pronounced deceased. 


 In honor of the courageous acts carried out by K-9 Axe, the City is flying all City Flags at half mast today.
