NOTICE OF ELECTION

Notice of Election to be held on

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 2020

City of St. Clair Shores, Michigan

 

To the qualified electors of the City of St. Clair Shores:

 

Notice is hereby given that an election will be held in the City of St. Clair Shores on Tuesday, November 3, 2020.  The polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the following locations:

 

Precinct 1                     Assumption Greek Church Community Center, 21800 Marter

Precinct 2                     St. Margaret Church, 21201 Thirteen Mile Road

Precinct 3                     St. Joan of Arc Church Community Center, 22415 Overlake 

  Precinct 4                     St. Lucy Catholic Church, 23401 Jefferson

  Precinct 5                     St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 22915 Greater Mack

  Precinct 6                     South Lake Administration Bldg., 23101 Stadium Drive 

  Precinct 7                     St. Clair Shores Senior Activities Center, 20100 Stephens

  Precinct 8                     The Shores Church, 24905 Manhattan

  Precinct 9                     Blossom Heath Inn, 24800 Jefferson

For the purpose of electing Partisan and Non-Partisan candidates to the following offices:

STATE BOARDS           State Board of Education, Regent of the University of Michigan, Trustee of Michigan State University, Governor of Wayne State University

COUNTY                       Prosecuting Attorney, Sheriff, Clerk/Register of Deeds, Treasurer, Public Works Commissioner, County Commissioners  

NON-PARTISAN            Justice of Supreme Court, Judge of Court of Appeals, Judge of Circuit Court, Judge of Probate Court, Judge of District Court, Board of Trustees Member Macomb Community College, Local School District

 

And the following State Proposals, whose entire ballot wording can be viewed at https://mvic.sos.state.mi.us:

 

Proposal 20-1

A proposed constitutional amendment to allow money from oil and gas mining on state-owned lands to continue to be collected in state funds for land protection and creation and maintenance of parks, nature areas, and public recreation facilities; and to describe how money in those state funds can be spent

Proposal 20-2

A proposed constitutional amendment to require a search warrant in order to access a person’s electronic data or electronic communications

 

And City Charter Amendment:

CHARTER AMENDMENT

This is a charter amendment to require a period of public comment of at least two (2) minutes per person at regularly scheduled City Council meetings prior to City Council voting on matters requiring a vote at such meeting, and to require a second period of public comment near the conclusion of each regularly scheduled City Council meeting in conformity with the Michigan Open Meetings Act, as amended.

 

Shall the Charter of the City of St. Clair Shores be amended to require a period of public comment of at least two (2) minutes per person at regularly scheduled City Council meetings prior to City Council voting on matters requiring a vote at such meeting, and to require a second period of public comment near the conclusion of each City Council meeting in conformity with the Michigan Open Meetings Act, as amended?

Persons with special needs, as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act, should contact the City Clerk’s office.

 

Absentee ballots are available for all elections; registered voters may contact the City Clerk to obtain an application for an absent voter ballot or downloaded from the City’s website www.scsmi.net or the state website https://mvic.sos.state.mi.us

 

To comply with the Help America Vote Act (HAVA), voting instructions will be available in audio format and in Braille.  Arrangements for obtaining the instructions in these alternative formats can be made by contacting the City Clerk in advance of the election.  All polling locations are accessible for voters with disabilities and have a voter assistance terminal (VAT).
