The courthouse is located on the northwest corner of Eleven Mile Road and Jefferson Ave., two major thoroughfares in the City of St. Clair Shores. The area surrounding the building is a mix of government offices, businesses, and private homes.
The St. Clair Shores Police Department is located south of the courthouse (southwest corner of the intersection), directly across Eleven Mile Road. The Public Library and City Hall are located on the southeast corner of Eleven Mile Road and Jefferson Ave., diagonally across from the courthouse.
Please note: When the court is closed to the public, a drop box is available (to pay for most tickets) 24 hours a day. The drop box is installed to the left of the front door.

Notice: Only the wedding couple and two witnesses (four people) are allowed at court ceremonies.
All weddings conducted by the 40th District Court are scheduled by appointment.

Under Local Administrative Order 2020-01: Access, Inspection, Reproduction and Creation of Court Records, there is a charge of $1 per page for all copies related to case files.

The court is now open to the public and manages dockets in a controlled fashion to ensure safety for both the public and court employees. The court will continue to readily adapt to provide a safe and productive court environment for the citizens of St. Clair Shores.
The COVID-19 Pandemic created many challenges for the court. The Court vowed to take precautions and make necessary changes to create a safe environment for both the public and employees. The court immediately began using the Zoom technology platform to conduct virtual hearings and arranged for individuals without access to technology to use it safely at the courthouse via I-Pad.
The court also made several changes and advancements to better serve the public during the pandemic, including the following:

Many civil infraction tickets may be resolved by sending a letter to the court or by emailing the court for a city attorney to review.
The court is currently open to the public for viewing hearings. If at any time the court must revert to conducting all matters remotely, hearings with be live-streamed via YouTube Live using the links below:
The 40th District Court will resume MiFile on Tuesday, January 24, 2023.
As a reminder, all attorneys submitting filings with the court will be required to e-file as required by Michigan Court Rule 1.109(G)(3)(f).
Self-represented parties may participate in the e-filing program as well.
